Class Information: Syllabus


Description

This class will focus on design and the design process. You will learn to storyboard, create flowcharts, plan, research and write content. You will learn to create the individual elements of a multimedia project, including site architecture interface design, computer animation, sounds, video and graphics. You will look at non-digital interactive systems such as games, puzzles, and toys as a basis for understanding psychological and social issues which form the basis of contemporary interactive design.


Course Objectives

Explore design concepts and terminology used in the computer based multimedia industry.
Understand the foundation design principles that make up an interactive multimedia project.

Demonstrate knowledge of the history and uses of multimedia design in oral and written presentations.
Create interactive projects using multimedia design principles for developing screen interfaces and navigation systems.

Expectations

I will take attendance at the beginning of class, please do not be late.

> If you are late you will be marked 1/2 absence.

> If you are present but your work is not, you will be marked 1/2 absence.

> On your second absence you will be given a notice of deficiency.

> On your third absence you will automatically fail this class.

Assignments are due at the times listed in the schedule. If there are changes to the syllabus or schedule, I will notify you. It is important for class discussion and critiques that all work and reading assignments be completed on time. Late work will be graded one letter grade lower for each day that it is late.

I understand that personal things do come up. If you have a problem and can not make it to class, or complete your assignment, you must contact me before class.


Evaluation

You will complete 3 main projects for this class. Each of these projects will be divided up into phases of development. Each phase will constitute an assignment. Additionally there will be reading from the textbook and handouts that I will provide. Class participation will also be considered in your final grade.
